Telmo Pires

Telmo Pires belongs to a new generation of interpreters who bring the Fado, which had emerged from the docklands of Lisbon around the end of the 19th century, up to date. It becomes an authentic expression of their current awareness of life. In Nevember 2011 Fado has been recognized by the UNESCO as world heritage.

Telmo Pires is also composer and writer and one of the modern embassadors of Fado. Especially in Germany, where he lived for many years. Since 2001 he recorded 3 albums and received praise from his audience and the press. He became a reference for music and Portuguese culture in general. In 2009 he was invited by Portuguese TV for the first time to participate in a talkshow and in 2010 he returned to Portugal to continue his musical work there.

Telmo Pires is an outstanding performer. He is beautiful with a radiating personality and masculinity. His appearance captivates with its elegance, sensuality and energy. So different to the established image of the classical fado protagonist. His lyrics touch upon everything that life consists of. Melancholy and passion, vigour and fragility. All of this is united masterly in Fado as Telmo Pires interprets it.

Right now he finished the production of his new album in Lisbon with producer and musician Davide Zaccaria. Zaccaria has been working for many years with fado-star Dulce Pontes and also worked with other stars as Mariza, Ana Moura, Jorge Fernando among others. Impressed by Pires’ voice, talent and personality they began to work together in winter 2010.

The release of the new album “FADO PROMESSA” / “Fado Promise” will be in summer 2012. Pires will be accompanied by some of the finest portuguese fado-musicians.

For this concert he is specially arriving from Lisbon.
