Mario Alberto Sarmiento Rodríguez

 

Mario Sarmiento, graduated from the Music Conservatory at the National University of Colombia, Summa Cum Laude with a degree of honor from the Faculty of Arts for his academic career. He began his solo career in 1994. In 1997 he won the Young Talent Scholarship Award given by the Central Bank of Colombia to study in France with Maestros Didier Verité and Silvio Gualda. He has been recipient of several awards: First prize in the First National Percussion Competition 1994, winner of the second and third match of music students from the Music Conservatory of National University, winner of the Young Soloists Series of the Central Bank and also of the Symphonic Orchestra of Colombia. First Prize in Percussion in the Third Cycle of Centralized Percussion Competitions in Paris 1998 and won the first prize in the academic music category in the IDCT Concert Series in 2003, among others.

 

Nowadays, he continues with his solo career, developing his repertoire around the percussion music from Colombian composers. He’s Associate Professor of the National University of Colombia.
