Marta Kowalczyk

 

Born in Poland, she began her violin studies at the age of 7. After graduating from the Frederic Chopin University of Music in Warsaw with Jan Stanienda Marta completed a Master of Arts with Distinction from the Royal Academy where she continues her studies with György Pauk in an Advanced Diploma in Performance course while being as well a student of Maestro Salvatore Accardo in the Stauffer Academy in Cremona.

 

Marta’s most recent achievement include the Royal Philharmonic Society Award, J&A Beare Bow Prize, and in September 2015 the 1st prize and Grand Prix with two Special Prizes at the Ludwig van Beethoven International Chamber Music Competition in Poland, alongside her pianist Łukasz Chrzęszczyk. She is also a laureate of numerous prizes at international competitions, including the 1st Prize at the International Violin Competition in Bled, Slovenia, 1st Prize at the International Violin Competition in Belgrade, 3rd Prize at the International Johannes Brahms Competition in Pörtschach, Austria, The Special Prize at the China International Violin Competition in Qingdao and the 2nd Prize at The Tadeusz Wroński International Violin Solo Competition in Warsaw.

 

Recent appearances include a performance at the Royal Academy of Music performed on the The Viotti ex-Bruce Stradivarius Violin of 1709, her debut at The Purcell Room with Penderecki’s Sonata No. 2 for Violin and Piano in the presence of the composer, a Columbia Artists Management Inc. USA tour performing Sibelius and Wienawski concertos, appearances with Sinfonia Varsovia, Polish National Philharmonic, Kraków Philharmonic Orchestra, Sinfonia Iuventus, the Polish Radio Orchestra and many others.

 

She has performed at the Chopin and his Europe Festival in Warsaw, Salerno Music Festival, Chamber Music Festival in León, Spain, Musica di Collina Festival in Lapedona, Cameristi di Bari, Italy, Chopin Festival, Poland.

 

Future engagements in the following season include the Beethoven Triple Concerto with the Polish National Philharmonic with Arto Noras, Barry Douglas and John Axelrod at the Beethoven Easter Festival in Warsaw; recitals at St Martin-in-the-Fields, St James’s Piccadilly, Berlin Radial Hall, Bratislava Philharmonic and at Concertgebouw Hall in Amsterdam. Marta was chosen to perform a recital at Wigmore Hall in the 2015/16 season as a result of the Kirckman Society Concert Audition and is to return again in March 2016 for the Park Lane Group’s 60th Diamond Jubilee Concert.

 

Recently Marta has been chosen as a Concordia and WCOM artist to perform at various venues in London in the 2015/16 concert season.

 

She is a recipient of The Hattori Foundation Scholarship, Martin Musical Scholarship Fund Award, English-Speaking Union Scholarship, Oetker Scholarship, Stephen Bell Trust Award, and The Craxton Trust Award.
