Katarzyna Zdybel-Nam

 

Began her bassoon education in 1998 studying with Jerzy Lisak at the State Music School in Zamość. From 2002 to 2007 she studied at the Academy of Music (currently the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music) in Warsaw with prof. Zbigniew Płużek. Three years later she completed her postgraduate studies (Solistenklasse) with honours degree in Hochschule für Musik in Stuttgart where she studied with prof. Marc Engelhardt. She continued studies at the Karol Lipiński Academy of Music in Wrocław with prof. Czesław Klonowski, where she received the PhD degree in 2015 and leads bassoon clas. In 2019 she pursued a habilitation degree.

 

The artist has received numerous awards at international competitions. In the Summer 2012 she won three important prizes: First Prize in IDRS Fernand Gillet – Hugo Fox Bassoon Competition in Oxford, Ohio (USA), in September the Second Prize and the Special Prize during 6th Michał Spisak International Music Competition in Dąbrowa Górnicza. Two years earlier she triumphed in Italy winning the First Prizes at the following competitions: the Gioacchino Rossini International Bassoon Competition in Pesaro and the International Competition for Young Performers in Chieri. In 2009 she won Second Prize (first not awarded) and the prize for the best interpretation of a newly written piece during the International Competition of Moscow Conservatory for Winds and Percussion. In 2016 she was awarded with the Main Prize at the 1st Matthew Ruggiero International Woodwind Competition in Boston.

 

She performs as a soloist and chamber musician. As a soloist she has appeared with such eminent ensembles as: Stuttgarter Kammerorchester, Orchestra Filarmonica di Torino, Orchestra Filarmonica Marchigiana, Polish Radio Orchestra, NFM Wrocław Philharmonic Orchestra, Sinfonia Varsovia, Leopoldinum Chamber Orchestra in Wrocław, Polisch Chamber Orchestra in Sopot, AUKSO Chamber Orchestra in Tychy, Karol Namysłowski Symphony Orchestra in Zamość, Moscow Conservatory Symphony Orchestra. She cooperated with many leading orchestras as a principal bassoonist: Orchestre Chambre de Lausanne (Switzerland), Royal Danish Orchestra, Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra (Sweden), Gothenburg’s Opera Orchestra, Malmö Symphony Orchestra (Sweden), Kristiansand Symphony Orchestra (Norway). Since 2007 she is a principal bassoonist of NFM Wrocław Philharmonic Orchestra.

 

In 2014 she released her debut album Portrait (CD Accord). In 2019 she released the new album Romantic works (Orphée Classics).
