Thomas Dobler

 

Classical and Jazz vibraphone Soloist. Professor at the High School of Music of Lausanne, Hochschule der Künste Zürich and Musikhochschule Luzern.

 

Thomas Dobler followed his studies in classical percussion at the Zurich Conservatory and his training in vibraphone and marimba at the Strasbourg Conservatory. From 1996 till 2007 he was a member of several Swiss orchestras and international formations. He participated in various renowned festivals, such as BBC Proms London, Menuhin Festival Gstaad, Lucerne Festival. In 1998 , he won the international competition CHAIN for his interpretation of contemporary music. As a soloist, he plays in collaboration with the new yorker composer Daniel Schnyder and various chamber orchestras. During this period, he is also takes part to several jazz bands and composes music for the radio.

 

Since 2008, he managed many Jazz projects, and performed everywhere in Europe with musicians such as Kenny Drew Jr. (p), Reggie Johnson ( b), Georg Breinschmid ( b ), George Robert (sax), Ayekoos Drummers of Ghana, Adam Taubitz (violon), Denis Croisonnier (accordéon).

 

In 2009, he won the Swiss Jazz Award with Robi Weber Quartet.In 2011, and was considered as one of the best vibraphonist of the “Jazz Station Poll” in USA.

 

Thomas Dobler is a teacher at Lausane High Music School, at the Hochschule der Künste Zurich and at the Luzern Musikhochschule.
